Relay: Ajax Directory Manager
via ajaxian… I know I’ve done a lot of little projects on my own where managing files has been a bit of a pain. We don’t run php here, but I still like the looks of this little application.
Chris Iufer has updated and relaunched his Ajax Directory Manager which is now called Relay.
We are freely distributing the software open-source. So we hope it comes in handy to all those readers of yours who were begging to get their hands on a copy of it. The project is launching as a public Beta, and we hope that the community will really help us make this thing stellar. Were positioning it as a better way to manage your site files for things like blogs or personal homepages, and to transfer files between artists and their clients.
Features:
- drag-n-drop files and folders
- dynamic loading file structure
- upload progress bar
- thumbnail view, including pdf
- multiple users & accounts

Relay looks pretty cool, I downloaded but haven’t tried it out yet.
A similar product is TheFileBrowser:
“The filebrowser is a lightweight PHP application that allows you to thumbnail images and view them in a web browser. That’s it. Short and sweet.
Like all of our software at Lussumo, the Filebrowser is 100% open-source. You can take it and alter it and use it free of charge. The GPL is your friend.
Here are some of the improvements we made in the latest version of the Filebrowser…
Hidden Files
Probably the most popular request with the last version of the Filebrowser was to get rid of the “dot-prefix” for hidden files. In this version we’ve replaced the dots with underscores so the files will be visible on all operating systems. We’ve also added a “HideFiles” option to the configuration that allows you to hide particular files without changing their filenames.
Sorting
You can now sort both files AND folders in whatever order you wish.
Configuration
We’ve allowed you to place html into your page introductions by replacing angle brackets with square brackets.
CSS
We’ve revised the CSS so that it works in all new browsers.
Simple
There are a lot more fixes and changes we made in this version of the Filebrowser, but as with all of our applications, the best part of the Filebrowser is it’s simplicity. The Filebrowser is useful, fun, and easy to use. Check out the demo!
