Ajax Debugging w/ Firebug

For those of you out there who are using an old version of firebug, or aren’t using firebug at all, you best get with the times. If you’re writing html or css or javascript or application (server side) code that talks to pages via ajax, you NEED this plugin.
via Ajaxian:

Joe Hewitt somehow managed to find the time to write an article on Ajax Debugging with Firebug, which he created.

The article will show you that Firebug is more than just a JavaScript console: | Read the rest »

Short Firebug screencast

via ajaxian:

…What are you waiting for?? Go watch this short screencast (direct link to the mov file) of the 1.0 beta to see some of the power, and then get it.

One of my coworkers today had firebug installed but didn’t seem to be really using it to its full potential. I think Dion almost fired him on the spot. Its so far ahead of any other web dev tool that its not even funny.

Firebug 1.0 in beta

Holy crap I want to install this.
via ajaxian:

Firebug 1.0 is currently in beta, and looks very different to the 0.4.1 that we all know and love.

The new website Get Firebug gives you a glimpse of what is coming shortly:

I really like how the top screenshot is actually “live”, letting you click on the tabs to see each area. Very nice indeed.

ie plugin for ff

I haven’t tried this yet…but looks interesting given our internal tendancy toward FF. And our users’ tendency for IE.

Safari gets a javascript debugger

Its about time - Webkit - the development version of Safari, has gotten a real javascript debugger. Its called Drosera, and the Surfin Safari blog has the announcement. Or you can just download the latest nightly of Webkit and go. Its interesting to note that this and the Web Inspector tool for Safari are about 90% plain HTML and Javascript. Hows that for a something that isn’t even a ‘real programming language’? | Read the rest »

New Firebug (0.4)

Holy crap. I’m watching this video of Joe Hewitt (author of Dom Inspector and Firebug) and I’m blown away by the latest version. I’m a little miffed that the printfire() function (which let you put error messages into the firebug console) is now deprecated, which means that all my libraries need to be updated, but I think I’ll get over it fast enough.

Joe Hewitt Talks on Firebug (Video)

via ajaxian; I’m watching this now and it’s instructive. Check it out.

If you’ll remember a little while back, we posted about the latest release of a handy Javascript extension for Firefox that makes working with the language much simpler. Well, the folks over at the Yahoo! Interface Blog have posted even more information about it - this time, in the format of a video from a presentation. | Read the rest »
