Mootools Primer, CNET Libraries online

Hi gang,

I’ve been at work on a mootools primer as a tutorial for those who want to use the library but don’t know a lot about javascript. It’s replete with working code examples that you can execute right in the browser and see the result.

I’m aware that the forthcoming version 1.0 of Mootools contains a lot of changes, and yes, I’ll have to go rewrite a lot of stuff, but most of it will still apply.

Why write this? Well, I wrote this and the docs because CNET is moving to a consolidated javascript framework and Mootools is at the heart of it. In an effort to make it easier for our developers to just jump in and start writting code, a working example seemed like the best thing. I started with the docs because they seemed to be a prerequesite, but the primer is really the best way to get your head around Mootools.

You’ll also note that I’ve posted the entirety of our global framework (we have a lot of other code chunks that are specific to our network that aren’t included; they aren’t part of our ‘global’ files). This includes numerous widgets and extentions to the mootools libraries that you may find useful (I’ve already sent them to Valerio, and he plans on including some of them in the v.1 release of Mootools if he hasn’t already).

You’ll find things like iframeshims (so you can position elements over form inputs and flash elements), carousels, multi-open accordions, and tab boxes. Expect to see working examples of these on the blog in the coming weeks, as well as more widgets and functions that you may find helpful.

Any feedback is appreciated. Here are the links:

Great primer so far, I plan on finishing it once the triptophan is fully OUT of my system. :)
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
